Who is she?

I remember when i was a little girl, they said I had sparkling eyes and a smile like a pearl,

I hopped and jumped in and around the house, I had nothing to hide, I was pure and clear.

All i knew was to be carefree .

Do you also remember the time of your life when it was full of joy and glee?

When you cried but your tears could be seen, when you cried but didn’t feel grief. When your anger and pain was just for a moment of brief.

Do you remember it still?

And now i find a girl standing in the mirror, looking at me! But i wonder, do i really know her? Who is she?

She is wearing specs ,hair not so set, her eyes containing stories uncountable,

Of people who came and stayed and the people who came but left, of the people who forgot her and the people whom she wants to forget.

Inside her is a house of secrets that she has kept, some of which are dark and some full of depth.

She has fears of losing her loved ones , to think of a life without them..she can’t even dare! But i wonder that is she actually being selfish or just that she cares?

She is a hell, she is a mess. You better stay away from this source of stress!!
Beware! ‘Coz if you come near you might not be able to bear the pain.
You see, I am warning you beforehand. Later, don’t complain.

She can make you have peace with your thoughts, irrespective of being tangled herself with the same. She is indeed a mystery to me which i just can’t explain.

She is no more pious and clean as she used to be, sometimes a hypocrite, sometimes fearful of troubles,

but she is also a friend, to count upon as trustworthy, who will never leave you, no matter of the happiness or the agony.

I again look deep into her eyes, and now i find a touch of innocence and sincerity!

And yet again i wonder, do I really know her? IS SHE ME??

  1. Life changes us beyond the realm of our imagination. It changes us so radically that we often end up with an identity crisis & feel as if our own shadow is a stranger whom we fail to fathom. But the change in us is something that is in our hands dependent on our perspective… for it’s not our darkness / demons that define us instead its our inner light & the intent to be the prophet of our own happiness that justifies our existence. Thank you for sharing such an emotionally relatable post! Just want to end my thoughts regarding this with a small rhyme of my own as a way expressing my perspective of ‘She’:

In her soul she may hold the fire of hell
Yet with her innocent thoughts she casts a spell.
For a nightingale in her heart does dwell
& with her words she makes others’ hearts swell.

Keep writing & keep smiling, Chetna 🙂

    1. Yeah! Changes are meant to be constant . It’s not a piece of cake to come to terms with them. I agree that we can control the effect of changes on us, to an extent. We need to hold on to our inner light to overcome the darkness which surrounds us. But sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you end up turning the things upside down. And you long for the times when you were not weighed down by all this stuff! When you were YOU!! But yaa, it’s the time you gotta hold tight on to your true selves. I am too just trying the same.✨
      Whoa Sidharth!! It’s soo nice.💜💫
And thank you for always making me smile with your heartfelt comments!😍

  2. 😍😍💖💖 Awesome!
The thoughts that flash past our mind when we see ourselves in mirror… They’re painful sometimes and reassuring at others. You’ve expressed the confusion, entanglements and the final acceptance beautifully Chetna.

These are my favorite lines from this post:
“Of people who came and stayed and the people who came but left, of the people who forgot her and the people whom she wants to forget.”

  3. This is beautiful. Maybe I do think about it. Life changes before we know it and we have to come in terms with growing up which is really hard. Isn’t it strange that we all dream of growing up and when we do, we miss childhood? We miss ourselves.

    1. Thank you.😊
Yeah!! We long for something when we don’t have it and then when we have it, we feel like…No! This is not what we wanted. We are tend to be delighted by the positive aspect but nothing in this world is one sided!!
And, at the end our wishes don’t matter at all!! Coz we have no other options but to live with what we have!😂

  4. One of the many things we as adults feel after growing up that we don’t resonate with our younger selves. Our younger selves are always more fearless, more daring, more lively.

But also our younger selves lack many lessons we as adults have learnt in the process of growing up.

We only need to cling to our carefree nature and to the boundless love that we(as kids) share.😇

    1. We gotta extract out the good things and the lessons from each phase and move on. But the good things are given due importance once we got to have the opposite. And the latter is quite painful too be forgotten. Isn’t it!
      Thank you Divya.💜💫

  5. This is really a very heartouching….. Remembering me the confusion we all have at some point of life….. Actually life changes us in such a drastic way….. That we quite often couldn’t realize, when all this happened…. And when we look back to what we used to be as kids…. We miss those traits of being very natural and innocent….. We miss being ourselves….. We miss being ‘us’…..but at the same time growing up teaches a lot too…. Which is also necessary…. Like the mind to mouth 👄 filter….. So ultimately, we should be a adult who holds a child within….
Thank you😊🌹for sharing such a lovely❤😊 post and reminding me of what it used to be a child
    Keep writing✏📝✍️

    1. We miss being natural and innocent, we miss being us!! Indeed Komal.
Some incidents change us before we even realize. And yeah! There is a good side too for growing up. You get to know more of the world around you.
      Mind to mouth filter .😅
I just wish that we are able to let that child be always alive in us!!
Glad you could relate to it, man!!
Thanks a lot for giving your time to share your views here.😄💜✨

  6. Your thoughts here echo my mind Chetna. This is what many of us feel at times.
We grow up from a happy carefree soul to an adult which has let so many other emotions and hurt occupy it’s soul .
It’s finally upto to us if we’ll allow light to penetrate the dark emotions within us.

  7. This is indeed an amazing post, and I could relate to it, upto a point! 👏🏼👏🏼 Sometimes, we try so hard to forget our past; but what we don’t realise is that we long to back to how things were in the past….

  8. The poem was deep, and very relatable. A frequent self dialogue of the same sort keeps happening every once in a while with me too. It’s just so funny sometimes to look at our own faces with the eyes of that child who had once imagined life to be very different from what it is today. And what we have become. Not that it’s no good. But it’s way different. The kid always sits safe in the memory watching our developments. You stirred a while lot of emotions Chetna.☺️

    1. Thanks a ton Sundaram for such a lovely comment.💜✨
Yeah!! When we look at ourselves with eyes of a kid, it brings back us to the time when we longed to be something like this. But all that glitters is not gold!😂
Difference is what we gotta learn to cope up with.
I am glad that you could relate to it. Thanks again for stopping by.😊

  10. It was a great piece, every line has a meaning so deep, and conveys profound emotions. Loved it. There are so many lines that made me feel something at heart (kuch kuch hota hai types😂) and that line “when you cried and your tears were seen” it speaks volumes. It was really great!

        1. Haha.. Thanks! (if that meant a compliment 😛)
Actually my aunt is a doctor, and she is struggling these days, trying to cure those covid patients, and I remember her public addressal, in which she said, “we are out today, risking our lives, in order to help you, do us a favour, and you help us by staying indoors.” Trying to do just that. Hope more people get this message.

(I am not a doc still btw, just a med student😂)

        1. (If you need this) go to a blogger’s website, not on WordPress, open it in a browser, go to the end of the page/posts, or sometimes it’s on the top too, and you’ll find a button that says “follow via email”, click on it, enter your email address and you’re done!

  11. Chetna, beautiful, insightful poem! We are comprised of all the selves we’ve ever been. All we have experienced and learned is a part of who we are. At seventy, I have lived a very full life and filled many roles, but I am also still the little girl who liked to pick wildflowers and splash in puddles. The carefree, innocent child will always be a part of you too.

    All the best! Cheryl

Exactly. We all gotta play different roles in our life, which makes us whole as a person. But yaa, somewhere we all have that lil self inside us. Maybe dormant but alive.
I also like to splash in puddles, btw.😅
      Pleasure to have you here.💜💫✨
